Al Watan Charter School

A CARING ENVIRONMENT

PEOPLE ARE THE HEART OF OUR SCHOOL

At Al Watan Charter School, we put people first – students, staff and parents. We have a clear focus on the social, physical, emotional and academic wellbeing of all our Al Watan Family members. We are an inclusive school, where everyone matters and everyone’s voice is important. We believe strong home-school partnerships can help our students reach their full potential and achieve the immeasurable.

At Al Watan Charter School, we strive to be an outstanding Charter School, providing high-quality education for all students in an inspiring, inclusive environment.

Our purpose is to motivate students and staff to explore, identify, and develop their passions and talents as aspirational Al Watan Learners.

Our goals are to:

  1. Engage with the whole school community to share the Charter Schools vision and their intended impact.
  2. Engage in ongoing professional development, dialogue and networking.
  3. Inspire students to improve their attendance at school (online or face-to-face), foster their eagerness and engagement in learning.
  4. Grow every student to meet or exceed levels of progress and achievement by focusing on aspirational outcomes for all.

The Al Watan Learner Profile is a set of 10 attributes we want all our learners (adults and students) to aspire to. These are symbolized by our Tree of Aspiration. The attributes were developed in collaboration with our stakeholders – students, staff and parents – and are points of focus throughout the year (one attribute per month).  We discuss them in classes and explain them in school newsletters.

We also award “Attribute of the Month” certificates to students, who have demonstrated the focus attribute over that month.  We believe that by developing these attributes our Al Watan Learners will become positive, responsible and successful lifelong learners.

At Al Watan Charter School, we know “it takes a village to raise a child.” Positive and supportive home-school partnerships are essential to ensure we are all working together for the benefit of our students.

We use a range of online and face-to-face communication channels to keep everyone well informed at every level – from the classroom to the school as a whole.

We encourage and support parents to become involved in our school community and offer many formal and informal opportunities for this to happen. For example, we run regular workshops, coffee morning Q&As, open days, learning journey presentations, parent-teacher conferences, as well as community events and celebrations. In addition, we have a highly proactive parent council.

At Al Watan Charter School, our core principles of wellbeing, responsibility and diversity help us to promote tolerance.

We encourage all our community members to treat others with respect and to take responsibility for their own behaviors and actions. Many of the attributes we promote – such as being open-minded, caring and principled –  help to reinforce the importance of tolerance.

We are proud of our school community’s UAE heritage. We also celebrate the richness that our staff from 26 different nationalities bring to our school.
